Achieving Optimal Health

We often take for granted our health and keeping it the way it is if we are in good health and have no health problems. However, we should always work on improving our health in the ways that we can.

Healing the immune system should be one’s major goal in achieving optimal health. Studies in many different disciplines show that the immune system is able to heal and improve with proper nutrition, infection control, dietary supplements, an avoidance of environmental toxins, stress reduction techniques including exercise, strong emotional support and various holistic therapies such as music therapy.

Even in the best of conditions, today’s depleted soil prevents the production of food with adequate nutrients. The increasing incidence of hypertension has been related to magnesium deficiency, autoimmune thyroid disease has been linked to selenium deficiency, and both vitamin A and vitamin D deficiencies have been linked to MS and other autoimmune disorders. In addition, antioxidant vitamins have been shown to protect against hearing loss and restore health.

When stress is chronic and undesirable, stress reduction techniques like yoga or tai chi can ward off harmful immune system changes. Emotional support from others and an ability to tap into our own inner strength can help us when unexpected tragedies occur.
