Announcing Proven Search Engine Optimization Methods

Succeeding with SEO is a matter of understanding the basics. Search engine optimization consists of two different disciplines. The first is called on page optimization, what you do on your web pages to succeed, and off page optimization. By mastering both of these areas, you can have search engine success.

Any powerful search engine optimization strategy is a combination of having the write strategy and applying necessary elements of that strategy in the right order. The same can be said for SEO. To win at the SEO game, you need to be willing to focus on on-page optimization before off-page optimization. This means that you are concentrating your efforts on navigation, web site architecture, and Meta tags. Beginning with on-page optimization ensures your success over the long term.

The place to begin when thinking about on-page optimization is with URLs and the overall structure of your web site. The reason we want to start here is because the URL is one of the most visible aspects of a web site. However, I would caution you about putting too much emphasis on the domain name as that is only part of the on-page optimization game. It definitely helps with Yahoo and MSN but not as much with Google.

It is true that putting your keyword phrase in your URL is beneficial even though it is not the end all be all. This is especially true with engines like Yahoo and Bing. One thing you can do is to use a sub-domain strategy. This means setting up sub domains from your main site that include the keyword you’re optimization for. An example of this would be: sneakers.yoursite.com where your site is the name of your main web site.

If you’re not sold on a sub-domain strategy, there is an alternative. The good news is that the second domain option is just as effective and just as easy to implement. Essentially you want to follow the same strategy of determining which keywords you want to promote. After doing so all you need to do is set up a separate page on your site. It would look something like www.yoursite.com/keyword where keyword is the keyword phrase you are promoting and yoursite is your domain name. This promotes your specific keyword and keeps it close to your home page.

After focusing your optimization efforts on your URL, its time to focus on other on page attributes. One of the most important is page load time. This is a function of the overall size of your page, scripts, use of CSS, etc. and requires a good deal of experience from a programming perspective. Your best bet is to have someone with SEO experience review your pages to make sure that you are applying SEO best practices from an on page perspective.

Once you’ve covered on page optimization attributes associated with a high ranking web site, you shouldits time to focus on off page optimization. Off page optimization is really a function of how the search engines see your site and how other web pages link to your own site. Off page optimization is often referred to link building as building external links to your site is at the core of search engine optimization.

Start with on-page optimization to build a strong foundation to your web site. Once you have the proper domain structure and address other on page optimization factors, you will be in a good position to roll out your link building strategy. As you develop more inbound links, your search engine results will improve.
