Walking – The Best Exercise For You

I sometimes got asked more than once a week this very same question: What exactly is the best exercise, doctor? The truth is, the key to living a long and healthy life is nothing complicated, as many of use may expect.

The simple answer to the question is walking. Walking is a skill that we acquire while we are still babies. It is so natural we never give too much thought to that.

Walking keeps our body moving and enables us to perform daily activities. Without walking, we would be ignorant and live a discomfort life without luxuries such as electricity and cars.

Ninety nine percent of our DNA and that of the apes are identical, but human beings walk upright, on two legs and apes do not. The walking activity put us in an advantageous position. Below are three major reasons why walking is the best exercise.

1. Walking, as an exercise for the whole body. Every organ is being exercised when you walk. The heart pumps, the brain got stimulated, the lungs inflate, the stomach digests, the blood is cleansed, just to name a few. There is a risk that your organs will collapse if you do not walk regularly, according to some studies. Walking is what keeps your organs function properly. A research in the sixties asked their subjects to just lay in bed for 2-3 weeks and observed later how their health was damaged. There was a general drop in energy and fitness, as well as in immunity. Subjects were more prone to mental malfunctioning and injuries. There is also a higher chance of low bone densities and unhealthy complexions.

2. Our mental activities can be stimulated by walking. It allows deep thinking on a subject instead of the exercise you are performing. For instance, when you are weight lifting, it is hard for you to think of other matters. Creativity can also be stimulated by walking. It helps many well-known authors create stories.

3. Walking enhances social life too. Many people can do it, no matter you are old or young. You will not be stigmatized or discriminated. You can go hiking with your friends and it is a good way to enjoy each others accompany. Girls particularly love walking along the beach with their partners because it is romantic. Walking is just a good way to maintain social life.
